Uniquely Us

Developed in response to families asking The DoSeum for childhood-age resources on race and racism, Uniquely Us: Understanding Race & Building Unity explores what it means to be you and me. Uniquely Us presented concepts like race and equity in ways that every learner can understand. This exhibit was completely developed in-house and I am proud to say that I designed all of the graphics in collaboration with the exhibits Vice President, designer, and techs.

The Challenge

We wanted to do something meaningful as an organization in response to the unrest and social injustice in our society. We decided to create an exhibit that would empower caregivers to have conversations about race and equity with their children.

To design this exhibition, we had continuous community feedback through Community Conversation sessions. We also worked with several partners in the fields of social justice, history, and education. Special thanks to our primary community partners:

• City Education Partners

• UTSA African American Studies

• UTSA Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

Explore what it means to be me and you!

The Results

I am so happy with how this project turned out; from designing the look, tone, and feel to the logo to the signage to the intro video to the wallpaper and tablecloth textures to the characters – everything really came together!

It is my hope that everyone that viewed this exhibit took something with them regardless of age. I truly think if we work to better understand one another the world can be a better place.
